Laser printer is printing dirty pages after I refilled the toner. Please help!?

I purchased a new drum unit for our Panasonic KX-MB271 laser printer and it worked pretty well until the toner was low. I went on amazon and found one of those refill kits which was basically a bottle full of toner and I just refilled it following the directions. I'm not sure what happened but a few days later whenever I would print anything the paper would be dirty. Even when I printed out a blank white sheet of paper, it would come out lightly tinted gray. Could I have spilled toner on the rollers or something? I disassembled the printer and tried cleaning it but the problem is still there. I don't want to get rid of this printer since I just spent $100 on a new drum unit for it. Please help!Laser printer is printing dirty pages after I refilled the toner. Please help!?
Is this is a drum/toner cartridge that you refilled? or a separate toner cartridge from the drum?





If it is a combined toner/drum cartridge that you refilled then I'd say that the cartridge is just worn out. These cartridges are not built all that well to last for more than they were intended. There are other internal parts that control the toner application, clean the drum and store waste toner that need attention too. If the waste toner part is full then you'll get this toner coming back out onto your prints. If the drum cleaning parts are worn out - same thing. I really don't ever recommend refilling toner cartridges as there are so many other things that can, and will, wear out and other potential problems from doing so. Also the re-fill toner may not have been of the proper quality as the ones in the cartridges.





I'm sure the printer is still fine, but recommend purchasing a new, or at least a professionally re-manufactured cartridge (though there can be problems with these as well many times). I know they are expensive, but provide more consistent good quality prints.

However, lasers can print thousands of pages on just one toner cartridge, and even more on just one drum, so it still works out cheaper than other types of printers.

So I own a Panasonic Laser printer and after the toner was running low, I purchased some toner refill for the same printer off amazon. I already had a new drum installed for a week and it was printing fine but after I refilled the toner and put it in the drum, my printer started printing out dirty pages. Even if I printed out a white page, it would come out with gray specs throughout the paper. The printer has a separate drum/toner and I believe that the toner empties into the drum when you attach the two together. After I started getting dirty pages I took the toner out and opened it and found that it was empty even though I just filled it up. I'm guessing all of the refilled toner went into the drum because now when I print without the toner installed on top of the drum, it still prints dirty pages. I tried manually cleaning it but it just seemed to make it worse. My printer software did not come with any sort of cleaning utility. Should I take my printer to bestbuy or something to have them service it? I really dont want my new drum to go to waste.

You issue is that you refilled the toner and didn't replace andy gearings or electrostatic rollars.





Replace the toner with a new toner or profesionally repurbished toner.





Print a pile of blank pages until you get a clean print.


You may need to replace the drum if you had too much spillage from the refilled toner.

Bring the toner back. Their is a cleanning blade on it which is not functioning correctly. Their is no reason that the toner should leak. It is not the drum, that is for sure.
he drum is not being cleaned properly between prints. Depending on your printer, that could be the fault of the cleaning blade, the cleaning drum, or possibly an erase lamp, if your printer is very old.





Again, depending on your printer, this could be corrected by changing the toner cartridge (not refilling it).





You may also have toner spilled within the printer - have you tried opening it and cleaning it manually?

if you have a solid grey/ghost print all over the page then the toner you installed was not the correct toner for that machine. did the box have your model of printer listed on it? with most laser printers if you use a ';generic'; toner you will get problems right away when you install the toner. if it was me i would have the toner removed and have the developer unit cleaned out and have all of the waste toner removed and then reinstall with panasonic OEM toner. if it was only a toner spill you would only have a dirty back on your page printed it would look like Black streaks/smears/lines. i don't think it is a spill. good luck

Not sure about the 4500 I use a 4600 and a 4700 at work and there usually is a menu setting in those that you can go to. On the 4700 you select the check mark and scroll down to the section that says something like print usage sheet and it prints a page showing how much is left for each color as well as toner same with the 4600. Probably for a variety of reasons.





One would be because not all toner is alike, the dust is designed to work with a certain form of drum. What you have in there now is photocopier grade toner. It isn't as fine. It is designed for speed. It is highly charged and not capable of printing in extremely high resolutions.





Likewise the electrostatic roller on a toner cartridge degrades, as do all the nylon gears. Chances are that the body is wearing out, on top of having a toner which is too coarse and carries far to strong of an electromagnetic charge.

When you buy a color printer, they are all included. But do note that when you buy at futureshop, the cartridges are only half-full and you run out of ink quickly. They want you to come back and purchase the full cartridges, more expensives and of course, you get more prints.

I currently have an Ricoh SP C210SF printer, which i think works wonderfully, however it seems that it has been discontinued. The one thing that i loved about it was that its toner would last about 10,000 pages before it had to be replaced. Now i am setting up a computer system for a friend and am looking for a printer that would match this number of pages per cartridge. Usually when you get into high page yeild printers there is a pretty heft price attached.





One of the more inexpensive units would be the brother HL-5240. The printer itself costs about $200. The cartridge it comes with is a low volume, however when you replace the cartridge a high volume can be purchased (TN580) it is good for about 7,000 pages.





About every 20,000-30,000 pages the printer will require a drum unit which can be pricey at about $200. The good news is that it is very easy to come by refurbished cartridges for this printer which will save a pile of $$$.





As the previous poster noted the HP 2400 is a fantastic printer, the bad news is that it has been discontinued. If you can come across a refurbished or gently used HP2400, that would be a great score.Does anyone know any laser printer that the toner cartridge lasts 10,000 pages?

Interesting question - which even begs more questions.





First question it begs - Is there a color difference between color and mono laser black toners? The answer is probably not but it depends upon the unit. The two hardest colors to match are black and white. I suspect there may be a slight color difference but it may not be detected by the novice color matcher.





Second question it begs - Is there a particle size difference? The answer is less straight forward. The specific process may mandate different particle sizes - and this is process dependant and this varies by maker and by model within a maker.





Third question it begs - Is there a difference in electrostatic attraction (or whatever term you wish to use for this effect)? The answer is very much dependant upon a maker and model within a maker. I suspect there may be marked differences within models due to model differences.





Having said all that, I suspect there is but it is model and maker specific.

They are small spots, just a couple of letters missing. Not always in the same place on the page. If your printer is still under warranty, I'd take it in for service. Don't attempt to repair it yourself. Look on Minolta's website for the nearest service center or refer to you user guide/manual.





IMPORTANT: Do NOT use warm or hot water to wash tonner off your hands since toner is heat activated.

You can't actually just refill a toner. You need to change out chips and mechanical parts.





The problem is most likely that the chip is expired and needs to be replaced.








If you cannot find a replacement chip you will need to replace the toner.

How many users total will you have? A network-capable heavy-duty laser can be expensive. You may also run into the problem of several people standing around the printer waiting for a big job to finish. Then if the printer needs repair or is out of toner, the whole office is at a standstill.





You can find a Brother monochrome laser HL-2040 for about $60. These are not network-capable but they are real workhorses. I have 2 of them going on a few years old on which I printed thousands of pages. I bought toner refills on ebay for about $6 each, but you need a $3 part called a resetter in order to refill the toner. I am on the second refill on each. I estimate my cost per page at a fraction of a penny.





If you want something with color, I also have a Samsung CLP300 color laser which I bought at Staples for $80 after $150 rebate. I bought a set of 4 toner cartridges for $70 at http://ccs-digital.com but I am still on the original set. It's also held up nicely for a year and does a nice job.
My lexmark T640 goes through a thing of toner about every 2 months. I print between 1000-1500 pages a week.

just open the front cover pull out the toner cartridges , there is a green lever push it up to release the jam paper and pull out the jammed parer evenly , so that it will not tear up, if this fail , so can open your printer , just remove all front screw cover plus antoher 4-8 metal screws on the fuser assy and remove now the remaining jammed paper.

I have a home business also. I have tried the refill method and it is nothing but a hassle. I have bought refilled ink cartridges and they are worthless. I buy all my ink products on Ebay - and get excellent prices on brand name inks. You can save a lot of money. My color ink cartridge costs over $40 at a store and I bought two on Ebay for $14.00 and $5 shipping.
depends on which brand you are using.. for the most recent modern laser printers. changing the laser toner is easy. all you have to do is change the long triangular like cartridge. you can do it yourself. to put things cheaper.
Laster Printers use a Toner that is Carsnagenic, i personly wouldnt advise doing it. as if you accadently inhale it it will stick to your lungs like Tar from a ciggarette.

Yes, the newer laser printer toner cartridge has a smart chip in it to prevent third party refilling the cartridge and re-use it. But I have not experienced the smart chip gave fault signal that the cartridge is empty when in fact it is not. But remember the cartridge that came with the new printer is just a starter cartridge and it is only 20 to 30% full. Yes. The chip is programed to be used ';x'; amount of times, before it tells the printer it is empty. This also explains why, even if you refill the cartridge, it will still say it is empty and needs to be replaced. Most printers have this, not just Dell's.

How many users total will you have? A network-capable heavy-duty laser can be expensive. You may also run into the problem of several people standing around the printer waiting for a big job to finish. Then if the printer needs repair or is out of toner, the whole office is at a standstill.





You can find a Brother monochrome laser HL-2040 for about $60. These are not network-capable but they are real workhorses. I have 2 of them going on a few years old on which I printed thousands of pages. I bought toner refills on ebay for about $6 each, but you need a $3 part called a resetter in order to refill the toner. I am on the second refill on each. I estimate my cost per page at a fraction of a penny.





If you want something with color, I also have a Samsung CLP300 color laser which I bought at Staples for $80 after $150 rebate. I bought a set of 4 toner cartridges for $70 at http://ccs-digital.com but I am still on the original set. It's also held up nicely for a year and does a nice job.

it might be a good idea to look through the yellow pages under office supplies or toners/printers since you want to find a supplier. that's really a good idea (getting a supplier) if you plan on buying in bulk, like for an office. you're more likely to get it at a lower price. it's also a good idea to shop around for the best price before settling on one.

you can refill it if you know the refill hole and you have the compatible toner. But after one refilling process it will eventually show wear on its mylar seal leaving gray background starting from both sides of the paper. This actually isn't the toner it is the image transfer belt. This is not a cheap or easy fix. If it is not an old printer and you are under warranty contact HP. Have a replacement or repair sent out.





It is a very common problem on the 1600 and 2600n for the image transfer belt to prematurely fail. The printer itself was not intended to be a high volume laser.

If you are using capatible toners that can happen. If the toner can smear with your finger on the page, it's the fuser. If the toner is jsut messed up but sticks to the paper, than there is something wrong in the transfer area of the printer. This is where the toner drum touchs the paper.

Is the toner sticking to the page?


If the answer is yes, then your fuser is okay, we can move onto the next.





Check your drum status. You can do this by opening the HP toolbox. if you are getting down to the lower percentages it may be unfortunately time to replace the drum. However if you have recently replaced the drum, you may have a defective unit.





I would strongly suggest calling HP they offer free troubleshooting. However I suspect that your drum has become partially demagnetized and will probably need replacing.
Are you using new genuine HP cartridges? If not, that is probably your problem.





If you are, then perhaps the cartridges are faulty. I would take them back and then purchase new ones from another store.

A lot depends on what you are trying to do. There are a lot of all in 1 printers that go for around $100 and all of the print cartridges are pretty close in price. I would suggest buying a Cannon or a HP printer. The warranty is only void if there is damage caused by the cartridges. As long as you are using a reputable dealer - you will be fine.

While it may appear that the cartridge still has toner in it, the waste gate may be full too and there's really not a lot you can do without laying out some cash.

If the toner has a chip/metal contacts on it, they can usually be reset by purchasing a resetting device. Shouldn't be too expensive, I would look on eBay, but you may be able to find one elsewhere (e.g. google).

Alot of variables here...





What is the model of the machine? For instance a Panasonic Model KX-FA84 has a seperate drum cartridge and lines can be caused by drum. You mentioned copies are lined and dirty. Are internal prints or incoming faxes lined as well? If they are, then your machine probably needs a drum cartridge or rarely with the panasonic fax a fuser. If the lines do not show up on an incoming fax the slit glass in the scanner is most likely dirty. Check for white out in the scanner on the little thin glass.

I'd advise your getting rid of the off-brand and switching back to the OEM when you still can.
If you have prints that are too dark then and messy then you have a problem. chances are that you have purchased a toner that was poorly re manufactured. This means that all of the replaceable and important parts, like ribbons and gears were not replaced.





Since drums for the most part are waste management this will wear out the drum prematurely. It is perfectly safe you use a third partly brand as long as you find one that you cannot notice a difference on.





What you have now is crap. take it back.

You are re-distributing the toner. Notice how when pages don't print, streaks of white appear in columns? By shaking the toner, you distribute what little is left. That is it (pretty much).....The toner needs to be evenly distributed on the inside or you will get faded areas on your print job. Shaking helps to get the little remaining powder nice and level.
It frees a small amount of toner that is stuck inside the unit.
I think you've got it - my theory is that the powder gets stuck on parts until you shake it. It's a small amount, so once you've shaken it, you need to go out and buy a replacement - but it'll give you enough toner for another 50 pages or so.

So lets say for the safe of argument that you manage to get the image to the page without blowing up the office, next in line is the fuser. Fusers generally hit about a couple hundred degrees. SO if you gunpowder document survived the electrostatic charge, surely the fuser would combust.If a laser printer had all the toner replaced with gunpowder- would it explode if someone tried to print to it
It may, since the toner is powdered form of ink, so the laser is used to ';melt'; the powder into liquid, so that it sould stay on the piece of paper. So if you put gunpowder in it, the laser will generate heat, and ignite the gunpowder, and create an explosion.
hahahaha I'm not sure, that is a great question though. Wouldn't it have to have some sort of spark or something though to ignite? Maybe it would do that from the electricity of the machine, but I'm really not sure. Nice question!

Laser Toner vs Inkjet Carts -- Any difference?

I am getting tired of my HP 950c Deskjet printer quickly running out of ink. Someone suggested checking out Laserjet printers. I found BROTHER HL-2030 LASER PRINTER but am still confused how the laser printer can help me save on ink.





When i purchase a new inkjet cart i normally print 5 pages within that day then levae the printer untoched for a couple months a print a page or two. Basically the cart isnt used much. Someone suggested laser toner.





Can you explain to me how laser toners are better than inkjet carts? Do they last until they are empty or is there the possiblity of drying out or some other part failing? How many months or years can i get out of this Brother Laserjet if it is used as infrequently as i do?

Laser toner doesn't dry up after leaving them for a long time. But there is always a risk of the toner expiring... Something new huh? Each toner cartridge usually has a shelf life of about 3 yrs.





Laser printer are usually more expensive but they give you better and more constant printouts. You can always drop by your local stationary shop for compatible toner cartridges that are much cheaper then the original ones.





For brother printers, their printers and toner are cheap. But their drum kit are the one that is the most expensive. And it is not advisable to get a compatible/remanufactured drum. Each drum will wear out about 4 to 5 cartridges on normal conditions. I don't think brother hl-2030 can print colours.

When deciding what type of printer to purchase, you need to be aware that toner and ink are not the same thing. Ink is liquid and is delivered by spitting little drops on the page. Toner is powder that is made to cling to the page and is baked on;





There 2 important questions you need to ask yourself.





1- how much do I print





All printers, especially laser printers, haver a recommended print volume or stated duty cycle. In laer printers, the higher the duty cycle, the more you can print. Higher duty cycle laser printers are also generally faster because they are used in office and commercial environments where print volumes are higher.





Laser printing is extremely competitive, so what manufacturers do is price the cost of replacement print cartridges lower as the print speed and duty cycle get higher. (This applies to color and B%26amp;W). The cost of owning a laser printer, any laser printer, will generally be between 7x to 10x the purchase price of the printer, so there is an incentive for high volume users to buy printers that use cheaper print cartridges.





In a nutshell, if you buy a low volume color laser, you will pay more per page that on a higher volume color laser.





Inkjet printers like your DeskJet are designed for occasional use. Companies like HP make their money on the ink. There is no more expensive way to print then on a cheap ink jet printer.





It sounds like you are a very low volume printer, so on this basis alone, I would recommend you stick with an inkjet printer, although you might want to consider getting your printing done at Staples or somewhere...it would be cheaper





What do I print?





If you want to print photo quality prints, your best bet, despite the cost of printing, is an inkjet printer, or taking your photos to a kiosk that will print them for you on a dye sub machine (London Drugs, Wal Mart).





Because they use ink, not toner, ink jet printers can produce a much better image than laser, especially when using photo media, but if your printing volume is that low, I doubt it is worth it.





As far as the Brother 2040 is concerned, you would be better off to save your money. They are garbage.
Laser jet has less failures than ink jets. The dry toner lasts until its gone without the fear drying out or cartridge failure.


If you infrequently use it..the brother could last for years.


But I do recommend looking at Hp lasers...Their servicing is simple and consumable parts are readily available....also keep it covered when not in use...dust is it's enemy.
For the price cost of a lazer printer and lazer carts I would buy a new inkjet. special if you don't even print that often. I will save you some money in the long run.


But lazer are better but also more expensive
Your deskjet 950c uses #45 which has a page yield of about 833 pages ---- not bad compared with mine (officejet 5610 which yields only 450 pages). The #45 cartridge sells for $37.96 at Staples (taxes not included), which works out to be about 4.6 cents a page.





If you buy a laser printer such as HP 1020 for $129.95, its toner cartridge sells for $82.72 at Staples and prints about 2,500 pages. This works out to be about 3.3 cents per page.





Note that the more expensive printer you buy, the lower will be the cost per page. For example, if you buy Officejet Pro L7780 ($549.43), the #88XL extra large cartridge which sells at $43.76 can print 2,350 pages at about 1.9 cents per page!!!





So it all depends on how many pages do you print over the life of the printer (say, 3 years).
Toner ink dries up even when unused. Ink jet on the other hand, does not. I would only use ink jet printers. I have an HP Photosmart 3310 All in One and i love it.
I definitely recommend going with a laser printer. They do usually cost more, and the toner can be expensive, but it doesn't dry out like inkjet cartridges do. If you are an infrequent printer, laser is the way to go. The toner cartridges of a laser printer will almost always outlast an inkjet cart by a significant factor (page for page).





In my opinion, laser printers are much more crisp as well.





These days, inkjet printers are really cheap (both to buy and manufacture). Laser printers are still somewhat ';higher end'; and designed better, last longer, etc.
yup da advice given to u is right as u leeve da printer for a long period of time well laser toners dont dry up lyk inkjet carts cause its only fine powder lyk substance but dey do get settled down after not bein used for a long time but da solution is easy as u just hav to shake the toner a little and thn ur printer wud wrk fine
Laser Jet printers literally use lasers to print, therefore they are generally more expensive, as are the cartridges. However they work much better, they dont ';dry up'; because there is no ink to dry, just toner, and u generally dont have to worry about any smudges on the paper. You wont have to worry about only using it once a month. If you have the cash, go with a laser jet!
Look it is true that a laser printer is much more faster and efficient than a deskjet, the toner let you print more pagespper minute a uses less ink than a deskjet but the difference is in the price the laser toner cost much more, is that is not a problem for you go for the laser one is a better printer. I have one and i don't have any complaints.


Remember when you buy a new printer the cartridge always come half fill.
